Bring your own Builder
Deer Mountain encourages you to bring your own builder and gives you the option of building in your own time frame. We will be glad to assist you in connecting with a builder who will work best with your needs, preferences, and budget in mind. We've made our job to get to know local builders, to know their strengths and building approaches, so when you share with us what you value in a builder, we will be able to quickly narrow your search to a few who you should then meet and interview so that you can decide for yourself who will be your best partner.
We particularly encourage those who want to build a green home, energy efficient home or a home designed for a more sustainable lifestyle. In our area, there are several existing support structures available for building a “green” home like the NC HealthyBuilt Homes program. This program offers a guideline checklist leading to four levels of certification: certified, bronze certified, silver certified, and gold certified. It is easy to meet the certified HealthyBuilt Home standard. The higher standards show the way to more energy savings and energy independence. Many good builders can build to the HealthyBuilt standards. You may also want to select a green certified builder or one who follows NAHB Green Building guidelines. For more information visit the National Home Builder Association site to review their guidelines: http://www.nahb.org/
Building green has become an easier choice because builders now have more experience building green so the cost differential is smaller. Today’s higher energy cost has shortened the time to pay back the cost of green features while the broader appreciation of green helps ensure a market for resell when that time comes. The affordability of building green has never been better, building green is a wise choice.
We invite you to consider Deer Mountain community and reap the benefits of building a home that expresses your values in a wooded private setting. Have trhe home you want and easy access to all the things that make our neck of the woods to be so appealing like UNC campus, UNC Hospitals, the lifestyle of Carrboro’s Weaver Street Market & Carrboro Art Center and the quaint town of Pittsboro.
