Bull Durham Blues Festival :: 804 Old Fayetteville St., Durham, North Carolina 27707 :: 919-683-1709Celebrating the rich history of southern blues in North Carolina, the Bull Durham Blues Festival is a three-day celebration of blues legends and newcomers. The event is the largest blues festival in North Carolina, drawing in crowds from over 175 North Carolina cities, 25 states and 5 countries. Hosted at the historic Durham Athletic Park, the early September festival is a superb way to unwind in the evening, with music staring at 6pm, and ending at 11pm.
Durham Craft Market :: On Foster Street and across from Durham Farmer's Market ::Supporting local crafts people is a vital part of connecting with the rich traditions of our area. It just feels good to buy something from someone who put the care, time, and attention into creating something of beauty. And sometimes a handmade gift means much more. A contribution of beauty and often function is appreciated and respected here. You will find the artists here on Saturdays, from the first Saturday in April until November between 8 AM and 12 PM. Eno Park Rock Quarry :: Howe Street park entrance ::The Eno River Park Rock Quarry is the most relaxing place to cool off on a hot summer day just floating on an inner tube. Located in Northwest Durham right off I-85, this body of water makes a great place for an afternoon swim. Find your way to Sparger Road between Hillsborough Road and Cole Mill Road; just north of crossing I-85 turn on Howe Street. The Eno River Park entrance is at the end of the street. About a half mile walk from the parking lot to the quarry also makes it a good chance to get some exercise and enjoy the beauty of the forest. History buffs might enjoy knowing that the granite from this quarry was used in the construction of I-85 from Greensboro to Durham.
CenterFest Arts Festival :: Downtown Durham, North Carolina :: 919.560.2722In its 36th year, the CenterFest Arts Festival has become the largest arts and community street festival in Durham, North Carolina. The event features over 150 artists and street performers, a plethora of food and great music. The mid-September event also provides many educational activities for children of all ages. The festival is located in Durham Central Park, where many art galleries, new restaurants and a farmers market are located. The city of Durham usually expects between 20,000 to 30,000 visitors to attend this event put on by the non-profit Durham Arts Council.
