Apex Salem Street Arts Festival :: P.O. Box 1381 Apex, NC 27502 ::

Sponsored by the Apex Arts Council, the Apex Salem Street Arts Festival is held every October in Apex, NC and admission is free.
The Apex Arts Council (AAC) is a nonprofit organization that supports all artistic disciplines, including visual art, music, dance, theatre and literary arts. We are committed to enhancing the quality of life in our community through the cultivation of creativity, excellence, and diversity in the arts and stimulating their appreciation and accessiblity.

The AAC was founded on the belief that the arts contribute to high quality of living and are an essential component to a vibrant economy. Partnering with the Town of Apex, North Carolina, the AAC is working to support plans, publicity and fundraising for the new Performing and Cultural Arts Center in downtown Apex. Other plans call for the creation of a Neighborhood Arts Program to involve our community in area performances and presentations of various artists; the development of a fall arts festival; and the publication of an informative arts newsletter.

Supporting local crafts people is a vital part of connecting with the rich traditions of our area. It just feels good to buy something from someone who put the care, time, and attention into creating something of beauty. And sometimes a handmade gift means much more. A contribution of beauty and often function is appreciated and respected here. You will find the artists here on Saturdays, from the first Saturday in April until November between 8 AM and 12 PM. Celebrating the rich history of southern blues in North Carolina, the Bull Durham Blues Festival is a three-day celebration of blues legends and newcomers. The event is the largest blues festival in North Carolina, drawing in crowds from over 175 North Carolina cities, 25 states and 5 countries. Hosted at the historic Durham Athletic Park, the early September festival is a superb way to unwind in the evening, with music staring at 6pm, and ending at 11pm.

In its 36th year, the CenterFest Arts Festival has become the largest arts and community street festival in Durham, North Carolina. The event features over 150 artists and street performers, a plethora of food and great music. The mid-September event also provides many educational activities for children of all ages. The festival is located in Durham Central Park, where many art galleries, new restaurants and a farmers market are located. The city of Durham usually expects between 20,000 to 30,000 visitors to attend this event put on by the non-profit Durham Arts Council.
West End (Carrboro) Poets’ Weekend :: Century Center and DSI Comedy Theater, Carrboro, NC ::

The second weekend of October each year in Carrboro, at Carrboro Century Center, poets and enthusiasts of poetry gather and share in the experience of live poetry! Visit
http://www.westendpoetsweekend.com for more details. 2008's gathering boasted over 300 participants and 35 poets, performing in genres from theatrical performances, readings, and music through spoken word and slam. There was something for everyone from grades K-5, Middle and High Schoolers and UNC Professors and students. Eight award-winning North Carolina Poets closed out the afternoon session. Our Carrboro and Hillsborough Poet Laureates got the evening started for the evening session at DSI Comedy Theater. The night blocks featured published poets, musical performances, spoken word artist Church da Poet and award winning poetry slam team, SlamCharlotte. Wow! What'll they do for an encore?
FYI: Open Eye Cafe, a favorite spot in Carrboro, has open poetry night on the first Tuesday evening of the month beginning October 2, 2007- December 2, 2007 from 7-9 PM.
